I hear this question over and over again: Is it normal to have flare-ups when I’m under stress?
My answer is this:
Yes! A resounding YES!
We talk about stress as though it was this annoying thing that interferes with our lives, but not something that takes center stage. Well, think again.
Stress is something that can change your entire world….and I mean that. Literally. Stress can cause heart attacks. Unrelieved stress can cause your immune system to go haywire. Stress can cause high blood pressure and weight gain, as well as dozens of other conditions.
In fact, I’ll go out on a limb here and say that unresolved stress is at least a contributing factor to 90% of the conditions that push people to seek medical care. And to go even further out on that limb, I’d say that it’s probably the main contributing factor.
You might not be able to control your boss, or the demands made of you at work. You might not be able to control your spouse...
One of the questions I get asked the most when I tell people that I teach Qigong Sound Healing is "What's that?"
Many people have heard of qigong, and some know that it's a system of very gentle movements designed to enhance the flow of energy in the body. In Eastern medicine, pretty much every symptom can be traced back to a blockage in the flow of energy....so Qigong is practiced both to prevent and to heal.
And lots of people have experienced some form of sound healing -- either in a yoga class where someone might be playing crystal bowls, or perhaps using tuning forks. But sound healing goes much deeper than that.
Cultures from around the world have used vibrational medicine to treat illness, revitalize the body, and elevate the spirit.
Sound therapy has been remarkably successful in treating everything from fibromyalgia to digestive issues to autoimmune disorders…
And when the two modalities are combined into Qigong Sound Healing, research shows that the tremors in...
Let's face it - pain's a bitch. And sometimes, ya just have to bitch about it. So if you can barely move on some days....cut yourself some slack. Those are called flare-ups, and that's life.....some days.
So allow yourself to be human, and don't beat yourself up if you lose it sometimes....but don't take that as an excuse to go off on someone regularly. You're doing your best.
Face it - no matter how pissed, depressed or defeated you may feel, the reality is that your doctor controls your pain meds - not you. And since that's not something you can change, it's time to figure out a Plan B. Your pain isn't going to go away, but your meds just might. So let's take a look at what's going on, and how you can start doing something about it. What follows is a brief summary of the science of chronic pain, and how you can turn that info into powerful tools to move your life from pain-centered to life-centered.
Why are you in pain? Well….for one thing, it’s the body’s way of getting your attention. When it’s acute pain - pain that comes from touching a hot stove, for instance - the pain is there so that you’ll know to pull your hand away. When you touch that hot stove, your body instantly spits out chemicals designed to put you into action: cortisol levels shoot up, your muscles tense, your breath becomes rapid,...
Chronic pain is almost always accompanied by anger, depression and anxiety - or some mixture of them. How amazing it was, then, to grow up in a home where my dad lived with chronic pain for over 40 years, and he never took it out on us!
So these Swiss guys decided to play music to cheese while it was aging. Really? I want to meet the one who thought that up!! But the weird thing is that when the cheese was finished aging, they did some blind taste testing.....and guess what? The cheeses tasted different, depending upon what kind of music they "listened" to.
Turns out that the bacteria in the cheeses were actually listening....and clearly they were responding! Now.....if bacteria in cheese can listen, what's to say that the bacteria in your gut - also known as your microbiome - can't listen?
Hey, I know it sounds weird, but every day we're being bombarded with more news about the microbiome and it's effects on the body, the mind and the emotions. So maybe we need to get our groove on with some music that soothes the gut...
Maybe another piece of the puzzle???

What are the obstacles that are creating stress in your life, and how do you overcome them? We all have obstacles - from a never-ending to-do list, to a recent (or not so recent) diagnosis of a chronic condition. Pain can be an obstacle. So can communication with someone who doesn't understand what you're going through.
For me, my biggest obstacle for decades, has been driving. I live in southern California...land of the freeway.....and these days, combined with the land of the text messages. Not a good combo. In fact, a combination that increases my stress levels every time I drive.
Here are a few practices that will help you overcome your obstacles.
And if you've got chronic pain, why don't you come join my private Facebook group Plan B For Pain. Because there's always a Plan B.
While some scientists condemn energy medicine as a hoax, others are doing research which supports the idea that we all exist within a field of energy. In modern science, it's known as the Quantum Field. In ancient China, they called it the Qi Field.
What does that have to do with healing? Everything. Because changing the energy field around and within you promotes healing - mentally, physically, emotionally. Lots of science on this one, but why not see for yourself? First check in with yourself and see how you're feeling on a scale of 1-10. Got it? Now check out this video: Dancing Around The World. Rate yourself afterward....and see if there's any difference in your mood, your pain....whatever!

Pain will naturally cause tension in the body. It's how your body plans on protecting itself. So your body will tighten up, tense up, curl up....and that not only doesn't help, it can also make matters worse.
Here's a simple technique to improve your alignment so that you can help decrease your pain, and the stress that comes with it.
Come join us in my private Facebook group called Plan B for Pain! There's inspiration, laughter and community waiting for you! Remember, there's always a Plan B!
Scientists have known for a while that everything vibrates, and that each cell in your body emits a sound. Your heart, blood, nervous system, muscles - everything - is vibrating and emitting sound. Is your "orchestra" playing in tune? Are they even playing the same music?
This is what sound healing is all about. Tuning up your orchestra....and I predict that it will play a major part of the medicine of the future.
